Twas eleven of the clock, the day after Christmas in the Wirral village of Willaston. The residents had gathered as they had done in years gone by despite the dark threatening clouds. Then hark! The strains of street music drifted through the village streets to reward their stalwart hearts.
Twas the morris once more on their festive pilgrimage to the village green.
This year there was great anticipation for the ladies of Mockbeggar would at last be performing the dance of Willaston Green upon its home ground for the 1st time in over 100 years.
The dancing was led by the Mersey Morris men with Costwold Dances of Vandles, Balance the Straw and others. Then after the serving of mulled wine and cake on the sword to the gathered throng. A great cheer went up as the ladies of Mockbeggar processed on to the dancing ground.
Led in by Dulcet voices, the ladies broke into the dance with gusto. Silence fell upon the gathered crowd in wonder of the great spectacle recreated before them.
![]() Raptures applause greeting the valient dancers at the end of their flawless performance. As the villages welcome the dance home after its long absence. Mockbeggar finished their spot with another Cheshire Dance from the seaside town of Runcorn. The Balsabob players finished of the day with a traditional mummers play and Molly Dance.
